Applying for housing

An application for student housing can be submitted through our home pages at www.kotopas.fi / application form or by filling in a housing application form available from the office.

  1. Fill out the application form on our website. Applications are primarily submitted online. You can fill out the form any time.
  2. Submit the application in good time. Leave in your application in good time, i.e. as soon as you are sure that you will need housing. An application is valid from the date of submission and at the most for 1 months from the date from which housing is needed.
  3. Keep your application up-to-date. Applications with incomplete information will not be processed.
  4. Let us know if your housing application is no longer necessary. This expedites the processing of application and allocation of flats.

An application can be renewed by telephone at 044 7355 606 or by email at toimisto@kotopas.fi. We try to observe any wishes stated in the application form if possible. If you are not prepared to accept accommodation immediately, do not select “At once” in section E of the form.

Granting of housing

Housing is granted primarily in the order in which the applications arrive. However, we wish to find a tenant for a vacant flat as soon as possible. An applicant who states in his/her application that they will take a flat as soon as one becomes available has a preferential position over a tenant who would take the flat at a later date, such as on 1 September.

Priority is given to:

  • applicants who wish to live in our flats uninterruptedly throughout their student time
  • families with children (for family flats)

Couples can apply for flats of over 35m2 in size.

Getting a large studio (30m2) on short notice is practically impossible. There is a constant waiting line for studios, and the waiting time may be several months. Studios are hardly every granted after just a month of waiting. The surest way to get accommodation is to apply for a room in a shared flat. Waiting lines for shared flats usually only form at the start of autumn or spring term. The most wanted shared flats are in Citysoppi, Keisarinranta and Kotkanpooki, so if you apply for a room in them, be prepared to wait. If circumstances force you to accept a flat you do not like, you can submit an application for a flat change on our website. Flat changes usually happen at the end of spring term or in summer. However, we try to avoid a situation where the flat changer’s previous flat is left unoccupied (summer is an exception).

Informing about housing obtained

Because of the high number of applicants, this information is only sent to those who have obtained housing. Cancellations are filled immediately, and there may be cancellations up to approx. one week after the studies have started.
